The earliest history of Ura is one full of holes and lined with myth. There is very little we know about the first inhabitants of Ura; who they were, what they were like… This ancient age of Ura is still under much scrutiny today as historians and scholars alike try to understand the earliest of days. With that being said, I feel no need to dwell on the unknown aspects of Uran history, but instead I shall focus on what we do know in a concise and informative manner for the greater interest of those who wish to learn of the more recent and confirmed events of history.
Early on in Ura’s history, the land was sparsely populated. Settlements were peppered throughout the country, and life was fairly simple. Out of necessity, people domesticated plants and animals in order to sustain themselves, and thus populations grew. Eventually, people began to explore more and more. As they did so, they would sometimes come across other nearby settlements. This was the beginning of a long and colored social history between the various peoples of Ura.
Humans, having settled primarily in the East of Ura where Iantha had created them, were the first to be created and therefore are believed to be the first race to form small settlements. Being blessed with an abundance of land and resources like wood and stone, the early Humans became great hunters, farmers and builders. They spread primarily to the east until they came to the ocean. Then they traveled north until the terrain and the weather became much more harsh. Struggling to survive in these conditions, the Northern spread of the Human race seemed doomed. Then, they came to meet the Dewar.
The Dewar were placed in the Northern regions of Ura by Bovol. Having tougher skin, smaller stature, and a strong will they thrived in the tough terrain of the North.
Early Dewar, having been created in one of the harshest environments in Ura, immediately sought shelter in the many caves found throughout what is now known as Adamao. Now out of the unforgiving cold, the Dewar became aware of their rumbling stomachs. In response, they quickly learned to domesticate various animals naturally found in the region. These animals (Yiddi and Grastia perhaps) not only provided food, but also helped to clothe the Dewar. Now warm and full of food, the Dewar began to explore the caves they inhabited, developing many skills and tools along the way. In these caves they found plenty of valuable metals and rocks that made the Dewar excellent business partners. Caves, however, are small places and as the Dewar grew in number, they began building settlements primarily using the abundant stone that was so readily available.
As they spread to the East, they eventually came across the struggling Humans. The Dewar instinctively helped the Humans by providing them with shelter and warm clothes. The Humans, having recovered, shared the secret of farming to the Dewar. After much contact between both races, they soon developed new, more advanced styles of architecture and eventually developed strong trade routes. They traded various types of food, resources, and especially the precious stones that the Dewar possessed. The trade routes were mutually beneficial to each race and aside from some small conflicts, the two races intermingled freely, sharing such notable cities as Vaern, Morgendil, and Khril.
The Lehulns could be called the least fortunate of the races since, due to the nature of their creation; they had no guidance from the Trinity immediately after they found themselves on Ura. For this reason, the Lehulns struggled to grow in numbers like the Humans and Dewar did with relative ease. Though this period of struggle ended when both Iantha and Bovol came to the Lehulns and showed them many things. Bovol saw the amount of water that surrounded the small Lehuln settlement and showed them the art of fishing. And Iantha showed them something but I don’t know what. BP can help me? Sure, what about the art of singing? Not sure if it's still there, but they should have very sexy and enchanting voices, which they use also to be awesome politicians, or something like that. With these new found tools, the Lehuln population began to spread throughout the land now known as Gorundrum. While Lehulns are able fishermen and hunters, they lack somewhat in social skills. As they came into contact with the Dewar and Humans they were slow to warm up to them. Despite the social awkwardness, the Lehulns got along just fine with their neighbors, eventually engaging in trade and intermingling with them.
As all three races traded with each other, Ura eventually saw the rise of large trade guilds. These guilds profited from the commerce taking place on trade routes between clusters of settlements and villages. As time went on and these guilds became more powerful, they began to serve as small governments. This was a welcome change for most people, as these guilds brought a semblance of order and protection while employing lots of people. However, things were going to change. Eventually, these guilds began to have conflicts with one another, leading to many battles and small wars.
While all of this was going on, the Dewar and Humans were still intermingling and in some cases, interbreeding. This may not have been a big surprise at the time because plenty of couples were from different races, however, the only races that seemed to be able to successfully breed were the Humans and Dewar. Even more remarkable was that their offspring were neither Human nor Dewar, but a hybrid of the two. This was the beginning of the Huvar race.
The Trinity Religion had spread throughout all of Ura, and it is with this mindset that the people saw Huvars as abominations since they were not direct descendants of the Trinity. Others felt that if the Gods had made both Humans and Dewar, then the product of the two should be completely acceptable. With both sides entrenched in their ideals, war broke out. There was no clear line that could be drawn between the sides -- some simply felt that the Huvars should be eradicated and supported the banning of inter-racial offspring while others thought the Huvars were a gift and should be celebrated. With no clear lines to be drawn, the war took over all of Ura.
The Huvar War is considered one of the darkest times of all of Ura’s history. The entire war lasted about four years, but some say battles are still fought even today. Then end of the war came about in an unfortunate situation involving (name), who was sympathetic to the Huvar cause. (Name) was managing a safe house for Huvars in Navall when (othername) found out about it. (othername) gathered a group of people who stormed the city and burned the safe house to the ground. The fire then escalated as a battle broke out in the city and nearly all of Navall was destroyed killing countless innocent people.
Word of the battle and the unfortunate deaths spread throughout Ura, and people who had already grown weary of the four-year war decided to put an end to it, thanks to a particular charismatic Huvar named Jemmos (last name?). Jemmos had been speaking out against the war since before the burning of Navall, but it wasn’t until immediately after the incident that Jemmos became a household name. His eloquent speeches against war and violence helped end the war and soon he become a favorite to lead Ura into a new era of cooperation and prosperity. He traveled throughout the land helping communities solve their problems and speaking about the value of the Trinity gods. This greatly improved his popularity and eventually led to his appointment as the first true leader of Ura.
Jemmos was not only incredibly popular, but he was also a brilliant man. His first order of business was to organize Ura into four regions. He divided these lands based on the principle placement of the races as detailed in the Only Book as well as based on physical boundaries. He allowed for each region to have its own natural protection, resources and population so that no region would remain significantly more powerful than any other. As soon as he and his closest advisors had finished setting up the four regions, Jemmos appointed what he called the four Crystal Leaders. (names?) These leaders were the four closest advisors and best of friends to Jemmos. Each was appointed to lead a region in a ceremony (name of ceremony? Holiday?) in which Jemmos not only decreed them as leaders of a region, but also gave them their formal names: Emerald King of Nofech, Ruby King of Rubrum, Sapphire Queen of Gorundrum, and Diamond King of Adamao. (names?).
These rulers ruled well, setting up their own reigns as they saw fit under the careful guidance of Jemmos. Many changes took over Ura during this time, including the introduction of the Henix, and the building of the Trinity temples in each city (?). New trade routes were established and the regions started entirely new diplomatic relationships. Many settlements and small villages grew into towns and cities, some even flourished into capital cities as they became great centers for learning, trade, and innovation. Jemmos’s first and only son was also born during this time and great celebrations were held throughout Ura.
Eventually the Crystal Leaders grew old and, as instructed by Jemmos, they chose their successors. The Emerald King left his throne to his son (name). The Sapphire Queen having no family decided to place a young apprentice as the next in line. The Diamond King decided to put the head of the most successful trade guild as his next in line to lead Adamao. (ruby king selection). Within the next 10 years, all of the original Cystal Leaders had either died or retired, allowing for the next generation of leaders to begin their reigns.
Not long after the second reign of leaders took their seats Jemmos fell gravely ill. He was faced with an extremely difficult decision: would he appoint his son as the next leader of Ura, or would he let the Crystal Leaders rule independently? Jemmos spent all of his waking hours contemplating this problem and weighing the various details and complexities. Ultimately, just hours before his death, Jemmos summoned his son and explained his decision. He had decided to not allow his son to rule because of his young age (number?) as well as a statement of confidence to the Crystal Leaders and the governments they had set up. The decision frustrated Jemmos’s son, and being a young man fascinated with the sea, he departed the next day on an exploratory voyage into the great sea.
Jemmos’s death marked the end of an era for Ura. Before Jemmos, Ura was stuck in a war with no end in sight; it was unorganized and failing to reach its full potential. At the time of Jemmos’s death, Ura was organized into four regions, each with its own government, it had a uniform currency that encouraged trade, and cities were prospering more than any other time in Ura’s history. Jemmos had prepared Ura for a new era of peace and prosperity that would last well into the future. But questions still remain – how will the new leaders rule? What issues will inevitably rise after Jemmos’s death and how will they be solved, if at all? And most importantly, will there ever be another leader of Ura?
