From Symsonic (awesome guy)

I just had an idea that could give the player the feeling he's walking through a movie. Just imagine everything on a map has a certain way of giving the player a 'mood'. Like a lake gives the player an easy going feeling or an encounter with a giant 100 foot spider should make the player afraid. This means that these things or events can change the mood.

Now imagine a common horror movie, just by listening to the music you know that something is going to happen, but you don't know how or when. The music gets more intense and you know it's getting closer.

Now, when you give for example a spider a certain 'afraid' value. The creature is actually surrounded by this value. The closer the player gets, the more of this feeling he receives.

This might sound stupid, and i don't know if it can be realized. But I've made a simple 'sound engine' that simulates this. This is just very basic but it does show it can be done i guess.. I just don't know how this is going to work on the cpu in-game.

It's a c# program and yes, you do need .net framework 2 and directX 9+. If someone is interested, this is the source:
